From the Whitby Gothic Weekend!!
[Nov 5th - Nov 7th 1999]

[Photo] The Whitby Pavilion

This is where the event actually takes place. It's a nice big building right on the sea front, well I say big, but during the night events, or the daytime Bazaar it is full to capacity with barley enough room for people to breath freely. Well as freely as you can breath while trussed up in a corset. But hey, its worth the discomfort to look that Good!!!

And think of it like this. With that number of people all crowded up into a building, it gets so warm that you can were as little as you like and not get cold. The only drawback I can come up with is the Que. to the bar's and the toilets. But you cant have everything, or you would just get spoiled..
The infamous Whitby fancy dress contest. This time it was on the theme of Science Fiction , and as you can probably guess there were a lot of people dressed up as a Centari from Babylon 5. Well after all, they are a very gothic race.. ;0)

Here the best of the best gather up on the stage to find out who has won, and who has lost. I would list the costumes that won, but alas I was drunk at the time, and being distracted by scantily clad women. I do seem to remember a couple of grave stones won first prize, but that could just be the drink talking..

[Photo] Now people who are into the Rock/Gothic/Alternative scene's are often wrongly accused of being devil worshipping, drug taking, weirdoes.. How many of us have had mothers drag their children across the street to avoid us, or been given worried looks by the elderly. We have a bad reputation that we do not deserve. And this photo proves it, parents bring their children to the Whitby Weekends, it's a fun safe place for all the family.
You can always be assured of seeing some good live bands performing at the Whitby weekends, and this time was no different.

But it has to be said, the best part of the night is the mingling. Just walking through the crowd at random, with a Snakebite and Black in your hand, just enjoying yourself and meeting new and interesting people. I have never been to a Whitby weekend yet when I didn't meet and get to know dozens of new people.

And it has its use, if you meet enough people from all over the UK, then no matter where you go to an event, there will be a good chance you will know someone there…
